Rules & Regulations


School Timings

• Classes for Kindergarten and Grades 1 to 12 start at 8:00 A.M. and end at 2:10 P.M from Tuesday – Thursday , and Monday at 3:00 P.M  .
• Students should arrive early and attend the School Assembly. The Assembly starts at 7:45 A.M.
• All buses will depart at 2:15 p.m. every Tuesday to Thursday , and every Mondays at 3:05 P.M.
• The school keeps records of all absentees and tardiness.
• All students are expected to arrive to school on time.
• Late arrivals must report to the Supervisor to acquire a late slip before entering the class.
• Students who are frequently late in coming school are subject to disciplinary action.
• Students are subject to losing school credit, if they fail to attend 90% of their classes.
• Students who have more than 5 absences per term will be placed on attendance probation.
• Early pick-up will not be allowed without a valid reason and without giving a prior notice to the Section’s Supervisor (either through phone call or letter). The parents should pick-up their children before 12:00 NOON.  Otherwise, children will not be allowed to go out from school, unless in emergency cases which is upon the discretion of the Section’s Supervisor

Attendance

The Modern American International School (MAIS) is committed to achieve high standards in learning and accomplishment levels of our students.

MAIS believes that students are better placed if their attendance and punctuality records are excellent.

Improving and maintaining school attendance requires a committed partnership. All MAIS staff, as well as parents and students, have the responsibility for maintaining good attendance and responsibility.
• Parents are asked to contact the school by telephone if their child will be absent for the day.
• The school will call the student’s parent/guardian for confirmation of illness, and record the reason on the absence sheet.
• If the student is travelling and will be absent from school, parent are advised to notify the school two weeks in advance.
• The student must present a medical note upon his/ her return to school in order for the absence to be registered as an excused absence.
• A student who didn’t present a medical note upon returning to school will have a mark of unexcused absence.
• A student with more than five unexcused absences in a term will be subject to various actions from the school, including lesson checks, parental contact, and potential sanctions (detention).
• A student with excessive absences may not be promoted to the next grade level.

Punctuality

Gates will be opened at 7:00 A.M. and will be closed at 8:30 A.M. Gates will re-open in the afternoon at 1:00 P.M.  Parents of students who don’t avail MAIS bus service must pick-up their children before 3:00 P.M.  since school gates will be closed at exactly 3:00 P.M.

 

Listed below are the designated gates for each grade levels.

  • Gate 1 (Main gate/Administration gate) – This gate is only intended for parents who need to visit the HR department or Accounts department. Parents will only be entertained by the said departments from 8:00 A.M. – 1:00 P.M.
  • Gate 2 – Entrance Gate for Grades 1 to 4 and Grades 5 to 12 (Boys only)
  • Gate 3 – Exit Gate for Grades 1 to 4 and Grades 5 to 12 (Boys only)
  • Gate 4 – Exit Gate for Kindergarten and Grades 5 to 12 (Girls only)
  • Gate 5 – Entrance Gate for Kindergarten and Grades 5 to 12 (Girls only)

Late Comers

Students who arrive later than 9:30 A.M. will be marked as absent.

Leave of Absence

It is compulsory that parents notify the school at least two weeks in advance if their children will be absent for a longer period of time.

Early Leave

Students are not permitted to leave the school early without the presence of a parent or a signed note from a parent. A phone call or email will not be considered.

Dress Code

(SCHOOL & P.E. UNIFORM POLICY)

All students are expected to wear their complete uniforms during school hours and must observe proper grooming all the time. Remember that the students represent the school and the school uniform identifies the school.

Students Dress Code and Proper Grooming Expectations

For Girls:

1. Must wear school checkered long sleeves with school logo pockets and blue school skirts/pants. Long sleeves should not be tucked-in.
2. Must wear plain white socks and prescribed black school shoes only.
3. P.E. uniforms will only be worn during P.E. class days. The color of the running shoes should be white only.
4. Must wear plain white undershirt only. Printed undershirt is not allowed.
5. Must wear the school id with official school id sling in the school premise.
6. Make-up, eye liner, mascara and nail polish are not allowed.
7. Jewelries like dangling earrings, necklace, bracelet, rings etc. are not allowed. Simple wristwatch is acceptable.
8. Nose, eyebrow and lip piercing are not allowed.
9. Tattooing is prohibited

For Boys:

1. Must wear school checkered long sleeves with school logo pockets and blue school pants. Long sleeves should not be tucked-in.

Common Areas

The school`s common areas include the playground, hallways, rest rooms, and the multipurpose room. Since all the students from every grade and class will be using these areas under the supervision of various faculty and staff, it is important to establish rules and expectations that are commonly understood and consistently applied. With such rules in place, staff can focus on encouraging good character among students rather than correcting misbehavior.

Staff will continuously encourage appropriate behavior in the school’s common areas through positive and friendly interactions with students. Verbal praise will be used to recognize students who exercise courtesy, safety, and respect.

Following are the school’s goals to promote students’ proper conduct in each common areas.

Playground: Students should play safely with any games and equipment. They must show consideration and respect for others.

Hallways: The hallways of the school should be safe and quiet environment where each one interacts with courtesy and respect.

Restrooms: The restrooms at the school must be clean and safe.

Meals: Breakfasts, lunches, and snacks at the school will be enjoyed in a safe, clean, and friendly environment where people interact with courtesy, manners, and respect.

Assemblies: Students will demonstrate respectful behavior during assemblies by listening, participating, and following directions.

Before and After School: Students must arrive and leave to and from the school safely and in an orderly manner.

Lost and Found

Students may retrieve lost and found items from the Lost and Found Section of each Grade. Those items which are not collected after the last term of the current school year will be donated to a charitable institution. Students’ belongings are not the school’s responsibility, but rather the students’.

Classroom Parties

KG and Grades 1 to 4 students are allowed to have classroom parties but must inform the Supervisor prior. Grades 5 to 12 students are encouraged to have parties at the canteen. They can have it in the classroom as well but they must ask the permission of the Supervisor first. The approval relies merely on the Supervisor. Parties should be held during break time only.
